Bulk Agentic Autofix for GitHub Code Quality: What Engineers Need to Know

AI SummaryPowered by AI

GitHub now lets you assign up to 25 code‑quality findings to Copilot for bulk automated fixing, replacing the individual “Generate fix” flow. This reduces manual effort and keeps remediation consistent, but it consumes AI credits and follows existing enterprise Code Quality policies.

Agentic autofix is now able to process up to 25 code‑quality findings in a single action. Engineers can hand the set to Copilot, which creates a branch, applies fixes, validates them, and opens a pull request, replacing the previous one‑by‑one “Generate fix” flow. This change reduces manual triage time and keeps remediation consistent across a bulk selection.

Agentic Autofix Bulk Workflow

When a user selects up to 25 standard findings on a Code Quality page, the UI offers an “Assign to Copilot” button. Copilot then creates a dedicated branch, applies automated fixes for each finding, runs its own validation steps, and finally opens a pull request for review. The pull request contains all changes, allowing a single review cycle instead of multiple individual ones.

Policy Alignment and Credit Usage

The bulk operation respects the repository’s existing enterprise policy for GitHub Code Quality; no additional policy configuration is required. Because the automation runs on Copilot, each bulk assignment consumes AI credits, just as individual fixes do. Teams should monitor credit consumption if they plan to use bulk remediation frequently.

Availability and Platform Scope

Bulk agentic autofix is enabled for repositories that have GitHub Code Quality turned on under GitHub Team or GitHub Enterprise Cloud plans, including Enterprise Cloud instances with data residency controls. If a repository meets these prerequisites, the feature appears automatically; otherwise it remains hidden.

What This Means For Practitioners

Adopt the bulk assignment when you have a backlog of standard findings to accelerate remediation and keep change sets coherent. Verify that your credit budget can accommodate the additional usage, and confirm that your Code Quality policy already permits the changes. Monitor the generated pull requests for any edge‑case failures, as the automated validation runs only within Copilot’s built‑in checks.
