Every year, AWS shines a spotlight on the developers, educators, and community builders who go far beyond writing code — the people who shape entire cloud ecosystems and inspire the next generation of engineers. The first AWS Heroes cohort of 2026 is no exception. With honorees spanning Europe and Southeast Asia, this class represents a new chapter in global cloud community leadership, blending deep technical expertise with genuine human impact. Whether you're grinding toward your AWS Solutions Architect (SAA-C03) certification or leading your own local user group, these Heroes offer a blueprint worth studying.
What Is the AWS Heroes Program?
The AWS Heroes program recognizes exceptional AWS community contributors who voluntarily share their technical knowledge, mentor fellow developers, and build thriving communities around cloud technology. Being named an AWS Hero is one of the most prestigious community-driven recognitions in the cloud industry — and it's earned entirely through impact, not corporate affiliation. Heroes are categorized across specializations including Community, Artificial Intelligence, Serverless, Security, and more, reflecting the breadth of the AWS ecosystem.
Maurizio Argoneto — Building Cloud Culture in the Mountains of Italy
Maurizio Argoneto, named a Community Hero, is the CTO and organizer of the AWS User Group Basilicata based in Pignola, Italy. What makes Maurizio's story remarkable is where he chose to build: a small mountain village that previously had no tech ecosystem to speak of. Over the past decade, he has pioneered cloud culture in southern Italy by founding an international tech conference that draws global experts and local talent alike, covering topics like cloud architecture, DevOps, and web scaling. But Maurizio's impact doesn't stop at event organizing. He is a multi-generational mentor — introducing children to coding, guiding university students into cloud roles, and helping seasoned professionals transition into cloud architecture careers. His community pulls attendees from across Europe, proving that geography is never a barrier to building something extraordinary. For engineers pursuing certifications like the AWS SAA-C03 or AWS DevOps Engineer Professional, Maurizio's user group is exactly the kind of community that accelerates the journey.
Ray Goh — Democratizing Generative AI Education Across Southeast Asia
Ray Goh, recognized as an Artificial Intelligence Hero, is one of Singapore's most prolific AWS community contributors. A fixture in the AWS ecosystem since 2018 — from AWS ASEAN Cloud Warrior to being part of the pioneer batch of AWS Community Builders in 2020 — Ray has consistently pushed the boundaries of AI education. In 2024, he founded The Gen-C, a Generative AI Learning Community that hosts regular public workshops at libraries across Singapore. These sessions cover everything from LLM fine-tuning to building AI agents on AWS, making cutting-edge AI knowledge accessible to everyday learners. Ray has taken the stage at AWS re:Invent, AWS Summit ASEAN, and AWS Community Day Hong Kong, establishing himself as a leading voice on machine learning and generative AI in the Asia-Pacific region. For cloud professionals eyeing AWS Machine Learning Specialty certification or exploring hands-on AI development with Amazon Bedrock, following Ray's work is a smart move.
What This Means For You
The 2026 AWS Heroes cohort is more than a recognition ceremony — it's a signal about where the cloud industry is heading. Community, mentorship, and knowledge sharing are becoming as valuable as technical certifications in defining a cloud professional's career trajectory. If you're on the path to earning your AWS SAA-C03, AWS DevOps Engineer, or AWS Machine Learning Specialty, consider plugging into your local AWS User Group or contributing to community programs like AWS Community Builders. The engineers who rise fastest in this industry aren't just the ones who pass exams — they're the ones who show up, share what they know, and build the communities that lift everyone higher. These Heroes are proof of that.
